About DoggyQ

DoggyQ is a science-based dog breed matching service that helps people choose a dog they will actually live well with — instead of the one that just looked cute online.

What DoggyQ is

DoggyQ is a free online dog breed quiz and breed-information library. The free quiz asks 10 questions about your living space, schedule, activity level, experience, family and budget, then scores all 343 breeds in our database against your answers and returns your best lifestyle match with a compatibility percentage, key traits and strong alternatives. An optional premium analysis goes 30+ questions deep with a detailed report.

How the matching works

Every breed in our database is profiled across dimensions that decide real-world fit: size, energy, trainability, grooming load, shedding, barking, independence, prey drive, child-friendliness and more. Your answers build a lifestyle profile, and each breed is scored by weighted distance from that profile — the same factors veterinarians and responsible breeders ask about. The methodology is reviewed by veterinary professionals and validated against feedback from more than 15,000 matched owners, 97% of whom report their match fit their lifestyle.

Our ranked lists (like best family dogs or best apartment dogs) use the same database: breeds are scored on the traits that matter for each lifestyle and ranked transparently.
